The Five Most Fabulous Foods of Fourteen!

Hi Friends!

Have you enjoyed your holiday?  Have you slept late, sipped coffee, and effectively forgotten you ever had responsibilities beyond clearing away wrapping paper debris and loading/unloading the dishwasher?  I sincerely hope so.  My holiday has been thusly blissful.

Among my favorite moments of the week was tonight, when my siblings and I decided to pick each other’s spirit animals.  We quickly realized we were very ill-qualified for the task, though, and turned to an online quiz to determine what animal we each most resembled.  Care to know mine?  A sable.  Obvi.  If you’re curious what animal YOU most resemble, this is the highly-accurate and not-at-all-nonsensical quiz we each took tonight.  Feel free to shout out your spirit animal in the comments!

Also among my highlights of the holiday: multiple mochas a day.  Obvi.  And I made them for everybody else who would let me… because YOU JUST CAN’T EVEN KNOW how good this mocha is through imagination alone.  I think I have a great many new mocha-converts after this week.  And for that reason, I can die happy.  (Recipe here!)

Today, as we head into 2015 with great expectations for a year of growth, blessing, change, and undoubtedly a bit of heartache as well… I want to share with you the Top Five posts from Pretty/Hungry in 2014.

>>You all flipped for this Healthy Brownie in a Mug!  Not only was it the most-trafficked post in the last year, but it more than doubled the second-most-trafficked post.  Wowzers!  And what a perfect post to revive as we’re all trying to get back on the bandwagon after an indulgent holiday?  Healthy brownie in a mug is made with whole grains, healthy fats, antioxidant-rich dark chocolate, and lots of other goodness.

>>You were puzzled enough by this age-old Vinegar Pie recipe to take a peek and pin it for later.  And I don’t blame ya!  Who ever hear of Vinegar Pie?!?  (Turns out it’s really yummy, really inexpensive, and really Laura-Ingalls-chic.)

>>You loved this hearty and healthy Quinoa Chili!  Who doesn’t love a meal that requires no thawing and handling of raw meat??  This recipe is yummy, packed with protein, and positively perfect!

>>Ever the Fall-favorite, you flocked to this simple recipe for Crockpot Pear Sauce.  It is scrumptious enough to sit in for any dessert, and it will make your house smell like Heaven!

>>And surprisingly, you kept coming back to this older post for Vanilla Bean Sour Cream “Gender Reveal” cupcakes.  The cake is pillowy soft and infused with vanilla deliciousness, and the best part is the surprise inside.  Aren’t babies great? :)  We’re loving the one that joined our family this year.

Happy New Year, sweet readers!  You all know that this last year was a tragic one for me and my family… and that your support and love was an invaluable gift.  I’m looking forward to another year sharing life, food, and kitchen inspiration with this community of friends. :)
