Oh, Life!

Whew!  I couldn’t be gladder to be letting this cat outta the bag… keeping secrets is the worst!  The Casey clan is expecting Baby #2 in early October!  That’s right, this girl is PREGNANT.

11 Weeks! + Maternity Photo Inspiration

~

We found out we were pregnant the weekend of my Dad’s funeral.  Talk about an emotional roller coaster!  I think we spent the entire day in disbelief when we first found out.  But of course, we are thrilled!  The more the merrier.  :)

I wrote about my first pregnancy a bit in this post, but I have to say pregnancy #2 has been pretty different.  A few observations so far:

1) HOLY COW have I been tired!

I do not recall experiencing this level of fatigue when I was pregnant with Elsa.  It’s been insane this go-round.  Most days, I take a 2-3 hour nap (and I never nap normally.)  And when I wake up, I seriously think, “I cannot get up.  I cannot.”  Have any of you been there?  It’s new to me!

2) Acne: You suck.

Ever since my surgery, my skin has struggled.  I think I have too many extra hormones floating around my body now that all my breast tissue is gone.  (TMI?  Oops, sorry.)  And pregnancy is definitely not helping the hormone imbalances!  So… fellow women with skin struggles, know that I feel your pain and that I currently do not like going out without face makeup on.  It’s not a fun way to be, but it is my reality right now, and that is ok.  You/we are beautiful regardless of those lame breakouts!

3) “The Quease.”

The first time around, I definitely had mild queasiness that lasted the first 14 weeks or so.  But this time, it’s worse.  So much so that we have officially dubbed it, “The Quease.”  I almost feel guilty complaining, since many women are literally throwing up every day.  That’s not me.  But the constant feeling of nausea is still no picnic.

4) The Glowing Study.

I’m blessed to be a participant in a research study at Children’s Hospital  called The Glowing Study that gathers data about second pregnancies.  They are researching how a mother’s prenatal nutrition affects baby’s growth and development.  This means I get to find out a lot of cool information about myself such as my metabolic rate, my body composition, an in-depth analysis of my food intake, and lots more (through ongoing visits to the research center during my pregnancy.)  It also means my baby will have similar visits til age 2 to track his/her growth and development.  It also means I get compensated for my time!  (Which is a great thing for this budgeting mama!)  If you’re contemplating having a 2nd child, maybe you’d like to look into participating in the study too!

If you’re like me and you love reading about all things pregnancy/babies, then you might want to take a look at my personal blog.  I’ll be posting regular “bumpdates” over there throughout the next 7 months, so that’s always fun!

I also wanted to take this opportunity to share the maternity photos from my first pregnancy with you.  I know that, for me personally, searching the internet for maternity photo inspiration was NOT easy.  The pickins’ were pretty slim!  (There are WAY too many ultra-cheesy and/or borderline pornographic pregnancy shots out there!   No thank you.)  I wanted photos that were chic and natural… and not too overdone or pose-y.  I was so happy with the photos we got!  And since these have never been posted before, I wanted to put them online in case any of you are pregnant and looking for photo ideas.  I can’t sing the praises of Zach Cheatham Photography enough!  I use him for EVERYthing.

  7. CONGRATULATIONS! How wonderful for you! So sorry that you aren’t feeling well, though- I’ve been there! I’ve also had the queasy not throwing up version and the “throwing up” version, and I can tell you from experience that just because you aren’t throwing up, doesn’t mean that it isn’t as bad!!! During my first, I used to WISH I could throw up— hoping it would lend, at least momentary, relief. I hope that it lifts soon! I’ll keep you in my prayers!
